Getting Started In The Kitchen – Pantry Staples

Before we begin with recipes, I’d like to share with you some basic items you should always have stocked in your pantry, fridge, and freezer. Don’t let the lengthy list below intimidate you, these are items that can be used to whip up any meal with little or no planning. So what are you waiting for? Go on and read the list!


  • Sea Salt/Kosher Salt
  • Peppercorn (with grinder)
  • Oregano
  • Thyme
  • Rosemary
  • Crushed Red Peppers
  • Cumin
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Chili Powder
  • Smoked Paprika
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Ginger
  • Sesame Seeds
  • Cardamom
  • Coriander

Dry Goods

  • All purpose flour
  • Sugar (white, brown, & confectioners)
  • Rice
  • Pasta
  • Cornmeal
  • Baking Powder
  • Baking Soda

Refrigerated Items

  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Butter
  • Mayonnaise
  • Lemons/Limes

Freezer Items

  • Edamame
  • Shrimp
  • Vegetables

Oils & Sauces

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Coconut Oil
  • Canola/Vegetable Oil
  • Non-stick spray oil
  • Apple Cider Vinegar

  • Mustard (be sure to refrigerate after opening)

Other Items Worth Mentioning

  • Onions
  • Fresh Garlic
  • Sweet Potatoes (or any  potatoes you like)
  • Sweet mini peppers*
  • Brussels Sprouts*
  • Asparagus*

*These items last about a week refrigerated
